Accessibility Statement

Last updated: February 7, 2026

Skateparks.world is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, including people with disabilities. We continually work to improve the user experience and apply relevant accessibility standards.

Conformance Standard

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities.

Measures We Take

We take the following measures to ensure accessibility on Skateparks.world:

  • Semantic HTML: We use proper heading hierarchy, landmarks, and semantic elements throughout the site
  • Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements are accessible via keyboard, with visible focus indicators
  • Screen reader support: ARIA labels, roles, and live regions are used where needed to convey information to assistive technologies
  • Colour contrast: Text and interactive elements meet minimum contrast ratios (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)
  • Image descriptions: All meaningful images include descriptive alt text
  • Responsive design: The site adapts to different screen sizes and supports text resizing up to 200%
  • Motion preferences: Animations respect the user's prefers-reduced-motion setting
  • Form accessibility: All form fields have associated labels, and error messages are clearly communicated

Known Limitations

While we strive for full accessibility, some areas may have limitations:

  • Interactive maps: The Leaflet-based skatepark map may not be fully accessible to screen reader users. Park data is also available through the searchable browse page as an alternative
  • Embedded videos: Third-party YouTube embeds rely on YouTube's own accessibility features
  • User-uploaded images: Some community-uploaded photos may lack descriptive alt text
